Candidate Profile: Dr. Brian Rees
Brian Rees, M.D., M.P.H., the Natural Law Partys California candidate for U.S. Senate, is among the most highly qualified of all Party candidates running for office in 1998. His extensive medical and peacekeeping expertise, coupled with his commitment to prevention, have created a powerful upsurge of public interest in his campaign and in Party principles and programs.
Dr. Rees was born in Long Beach and has lived in California most of his life. After graduating from the University of California at Santa Barbara, he attended medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans, graduating with both an M.D. and a master's degree in public health. He is residency trained and board certified in family practice, and in the 1980s he traveled to India for special training in prevention-oriented natural health care. Dr. Rees served for seven years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and is currently a Colonel in the Army Reserve and the commander of a hospital unit in Irvine; in 1996 he was sent to the former Yugoslavia for four and a half months to help support peacekeeping operations there. He currently runs a private medical practice with his wife and partner, also a physician; their two beautiful children attend California public schools.
Dr. Reess recent book "Heal Your Self, Heal Your World" provides a powerful overview of scientific methods that can transform illness and suffering into health and peace. He presents evidence to show that modern medicine is on the threshold of a paradigm shift similar to the jump physics made from Newton to Einstein, and that this new medicine includes the healing of communities, nations, and even our entire world. Drawing upon both ancient and modern approaches to healing, the book provides many practical steps we can all take to take charge of our own health.
